Jeremy (Jem) Finch
Jem is Scout's older brother. He is also Scout's best friend in the story. He protects her and cares a lot for her. He matures a lot throughout the novel. Jem goes from an adventure seeking boy to a mature, smart young man. Jem is also very passionate. For example after Tom Robinson lost the trial, Jem really took it to heart and got very upset about the whole situation. He probably took it to heart also because he understands more and he is very aware of his surroundings. He was very curious about what his father was doing in regards to the case because he was old enough to realize the importance of everything.

Jean Louise (Scout) Finch
Scout is the main character of the novel and is also the narrator. Scout is very curious about everything and looks up to Atticus and Jem for what is right and what is wrong. Scout is also a major tomboy and not many ladies in Maycomb can understand or accept that but she does not care. Throughout the novel, Scout gets a better idea of the world around her and learns a lot about the people around her as well. At the end of the book she realizes a lot that she completely missed before such as the racism in her town and the prejudice as well. In the story Scout was also very curious about Boo Radley and what was going on with him.

Atticus Finch.
Atticus is a single parent to Scout and Jem. He has a major influence on the but mainly Jem looks up to him the most in terms of what is the right thing to do and what is wrong. Atticus represented Tom Robinson in court and tried his best to allow him to be free and be treated equally. Atticus seems to treat African Americans better than most of the people in the town. He tries his very best to be a good role model to Jem and Scout and teach them right from wrong. He constantly is explaining concepts and manners to the kids in the book. He was a very professional and calm man because he always let things go rather than trying to fight fire with fire. For example when Bob Ewell spit on him, he did not cause a scene or a fight. He simply walked away and was the bigger person in the situation.

Bob Ewell
Bob Ewell was easily the villain of the novel. Some would say he was the meanest person to walk the streets of Maycomb. He was the person who tried to get Tom arrested for raping Mayella. Once Atticus began defending Tom, that was it. Bob absolutely hated the entire Finch family for trying to help black people. He swore he would get revenge. He was a very poor person as well. Bob could not keep a job for the life of him. Everytime he gt a job, he got fired fairly quickly. One of his sons already showed signs of his father as well when he was in school with Scout and refused to come back. Bob was a major alchoholic and would beat his children when he got drunk.
Dill Harris
Dill is a young boy in the novel who is friends with Jem and Scout. He only spends the summer with them because he stays with his aunt Rachel, who is the Finches' neighbor. Scout and Dill have a young romance in the novel but it doesn't really play a part in the plot. Dill goes through a lot with Jem and Scout. He was there for the trial and was always with them to try and get Boo Radley out of his house. Dill was very daring and adventurous. Dill did not have a stable family to live with but Jem and Scout seemed to be some of the most constant people in his life and Atticus seemed to be kind of like a father figure for Dill. He often took care of Dill.
